Function of the RN Preceptor includes:

  • The RN Preceptor must be an experienced Registered Nurse in home health who has the desire to teach and uses evidenced-based practices to socialize/facilitate/mentor a new RN to the role of a home health care  nurse through clinical learning experiences.  
  • The RN-Preceptor must also collaborate with the Director and Manager of Clinical Services and the Clinical  Educator, will use useful feedback in determining goals and learning objectives, teach home care  protocols, and encourage critical thinking. 
  • The RN-Preceptor must have broad knowledge and demonstrates enjoyment/enthusiasm for patient care and  teaching and has ability to: present information in an organized clear manner, connect information to  broader concepts, explain basis for actions/decisions, communicate goals/expectations clearly, answer  questions clearly/precisely, perform fair/thoughtful evaluations, accurately assess a learners knowledge,  attitudes, and skills, and generate interest, motivate/capture a learners attention.

Qualifications

 

  • An active RN license in the state of Nebraska
  • Three to Five years of RN experience a must. Three years of RN Preceptor Field work a plus
  • Bachelors Degree required; Masters Degree a plus
  • Must have RN work experience and training in Homecare, Hospice and Palliative care.
  • Knowledge of administering medications
  • The ability to think and act quickly and discern the difference between urgent vs. emergency situations
  • Ability to be very autonomous while still being part of a care team
  • Passion for excellence in quality of care
  • Effective leadership in collaborating with all team members including physicians and ancillary team members
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must have good interpersonal skills
