Responsibilities

Join us now as we are seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our RESEARCH DEPARTMENT! The Post-Doctoral Fellow at Dignity Health St. Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center, Hernia Institute is a 1 year position intended to provide training and education in research. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will conduct research in disciplines of study in Dignity Health Hernia Institute, and General Surgery under the direction and in collaboration with faculty members. The Post-Doctoral Fellow works closely with Dignity Health faculty, Creighton University faculty, Residents, medical students, managers, and leaders and assumes the responsibility for research related activities.  This position will be responsible for project status report collation and communication support.  The Post-Doctoral fellow will lead the coordination of special projects at the end is responsible for developing project plans, timelines and ensure project goals are met. Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their training and peer-reviewed publications and should become competitive for national research grants. Proof of English proficiency is required for J-1 Short-Term Scholars, Research Scholars, Professors, Specialists, and Student Interns sponsored by Dignity Health St. Joseph's Hospital & Medical Center, Hernia Institute.  Excellent communication skills, detail-oriented, prioritizing skills and the ability to develop relationships is key to this position.

Proof of doctoral degree (copy of diploma or final transcript with English translation, if applicable) or a letter from your university's Registrar office indicating you have fulfilled all doctoral program requirements and are eligible to graduate.

Please also be prepared that you may be asked to provide three letters of recommendation to the hiring PI prior to an interview.


Qualifications

Qualifications
Must have a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree in a field deemed relevant by the program. 

J-1 research scholars will perform tasks that are consistent with Dignity's J1 "Research Scholar" programs. The specificity of the tasks will be determined by Dignity Health. Under the J-1 program, a research scholar may stay in the U.S. for up to five years. However, Dignity has complete discretion of determining the exact length of any J-1 research scholar's stay in the U.S., including the initial period of stay and whether there will be any subsequent extension. The J1 scholar will engage in clinical research under the direction and guidance of a faculty member, developing skills necessary for success as an independent investigator.

Experience
Laboratory or clinical research at the post-baccalaureate level with an interest in a faculty member's line of study.
Beyond minimum required, experience writing research reports concerning own work 

Education
Ph.D., post-baccalaureate M.D. or D.Sc. degree or equivalent in a relevant field of endeavor.
Doctoral degree in a relevant field of endeavor preferred.

Special Skills
Familiar with basic computer, mathematical, scientific, reasoning, and oral and written communication skills as appropriate.


Training

Laboratory or clinical technical and/or interpersonal skills as appropriate.
Technical and/or conceptual expertise in a relevant field
